Penguin Family

I found this a really cute and unusual kit. Ideal for those who want to make something other than teddy bears. (No matter how much we love them, sometimes it is nice to try something else!)

The PENGUIN FAMILY kit contains more than enough fabric to make the two larger penguins (3 1/2" tall) and a little chick. [I was pleased that I had no problem fitting all the pattern pieces on the fabric supplied. I really dislike kits which include only just enough fabric to accommodate all the pattern pieces]

I won't give away the method, but I was fascinated by the simple way Loris has used to make the chick.

The parent penguins are made almost identically and to be honest, I did have a bit of a problem understanding how to make up the penguin that on the kit photo, is bending over the chick. I explained the problem to Loris, and she kindly sent me additional instructions.

The body of the penguin is made up of only three pieces and it felt quick and easy to make once I figured out the what the bits I was sewing were. I didn't have trouble making up the beak but sewing and turning the feet I found a bit fiddly. Even so, it didn't stop me making another one using my own fabric (and some very odd colours) immediately afterwards.

My opinion of this kit was very favourable. Not really difficult, perhaps a little bit of a challenge, but for anyone who wants to make something a little different and likes penguins, then you will probably have a lot of fun making this kit up.
